my favorite things of 2013:
I had this in my drafts for weeks now. I was just too lazy to post it. My #1 favorite thing of 2013 was Steven Universe. I wrote a super long post gushing about it which is also in the drafts and I probably won’t publish it. Just know that it is a very good show and I’m looking forward to watching more of it. All things comics/movie/music related after the cut.
I rearranged my room to make a little studio for myself. I was proud of it and wanted to share and then I got bored.
I’m gonna work on getting jobs/setting shops/building portfolios/making things and all that stuff this year. I’m getting pretty scared! Things get scary when you commit yourself to something.
I was using tumblr’s ask box kinda backwards with kitsiecake and was asked how I got into art. I’ll just answer it here. I was really into Mario. The cartoon and the drawings in the manuals kinda blew my mind. It made him more real to me. That’s the best way I could describe it. I lived in Japan from when I was 4 until 8 and I collected a bunch of Dragon Ball cards I found literally scattered around town. I don’t think I bought any of those things. I’d just go to every phonebooth and hope some were lying around. (Ironically, I didn’t see an episode until I moved out of the country and my new home broadcasted Toonami and it was the greatest day of my life.) Those two things and the Chicago Bulls mascot were pretty much all I drew, along with some 3D cubes, S’s and Kilroys. I didn’t start getting serious about my art until about four years ago, but I don’t think I’d ever really be into drawing if those things I mentioned didn’t exist. They were just super cool to look at and I couldn’t think of a good reason why I shouldn’t draw them all day.
every once in a while I remember the part in EarthBound when you get to Magicant and you come across a snowman that says “thank you for remembering me.” it’s such a small, little thing that could easily be missed, but it’s so great and important. I can’t help but be happy when I think about it.
I’ve been wanting to draw it but I’ve decided it’s much better left in my memory. there’s nothing I could add to it. it’s perfect.
