I had my first Chipotle burrito. It’s like Subway, but burritos! I had so much guac.

Tomorrow’s article is about white models being painted black and all that bad stuff.
I don’t think I got a strong enough image for the article, but I like how this came out.
The Last Book I Loved: Cataclysm Baby
The Last Book I Loved is an ongoing series with The Rumpus to highlight emerging Tumblr writers (and the books they love). Want to have your essay considered? Submit it here.
Cataclysm Baby, a short story collection by Matt Bell, explores fatherhood under the guise of a book of baby names. The innocent abecedary form belies the book’s dark contents. I don’t think it would be inappropriate to place the collection in the horror genre, if only to align it with my own desires and my love affair with horror movies. But the book certainly contains enough blood, guts, and magic to earn a place there.
We loved this piece by Tumblr user (& writer) Alvin Park about Tumblr author Matt Bell’s collection of cataclysmic fatherhood.
Oh hey, that’s me!
After you read my essay, make sure you pick up Cataclysm Baby and then preorder Matt Bell’s upcoming debut, In the House Upon the Dirt Between the Lake and the Woods.
If you don’t, we can’t be friends. u_u
Well, we can still probably be friends, but I won’t talk to you for, like, an hour.
wowow Alvin!
I’ll go get this book.
I really love YOU!
also how have you been? how is that internship? we need to hug.
I don’t know.
1) I plan on learning how to use flash so I can export stuff in formats other than gifs. but since I got a new laptop with fancy things on it I’m gonna try things out in ps for a little longer.
2) they need to be everywhere! everybody draw cool stuff!
here’s the third way I taught my students today. they had a little trouble with step 7. I should add that the middle creases should meet and kiss each other, if that helps anyone.
again, I learned how to do this from reading these books. I highly recommend them! there’s also a printing guide pdf I downloaded a long time ago by (I think) Jordan Crane? not entirely sure. I actually didn’t read it yet. but if anyone is interested in what little info I gave you, look it up and find it. should be a good’n! and if anyone knows what I’m talking about, please remind me what it was. I probably lost the pdf when I cleaned out my laptop.
skieselectric asked: Hey! Where are all your editorial illustrations published? Like, are you the go-to guy for a blog or paper or something like that? Just curious, thanks!
They’re all for my school paper. They get published on an actual paper and put up here. My friend works there and got me the job after I asked about it. I just draw twice a week for the opinion section. Sometimes I’m really not in the mood to do them, and a lot of the time I find out they’re for articles I don’t much like, but it’s a good hand/attitude exercise!
another file from my old laptop.
This is for tomorrow. The article is about police dogs being ineffective but still used. Or something. A judge is involved. Slow news day I guess. I don’t care much for this drawing. I just liked how dumb this dog looks.
working on instructions on how to fold paper into comics for my class. this is unfinished, but it looks cool enough to share with you.
I learned these from Whatcha Mean, What’s a Zine? and (I think*) Drawing Words and Writing Pictures. Both really good books that cover possibly whatever you’ll need as far as production goes. I know I scanned some pages for me to go back to, but I lost them somehow??
*I didn’t finish the book and had to return it. I gotta check it out again.
cleaning out files from my 5 year old laptop and apparently I learned how to use milkytracker?

Don’t give up hope!
I kept thinking of Josh Agerstrand’s exploding earth while drawing this. You should check that out. Good apocalypse right there. Better than this if you ask me.
tumblr coupon code for monsters is TUMBLR. :)
don’t lie, you need a monster friend. I know.
!
diary comics!
These won’t be frequent, but I’ll try to put more effort into them. I drew backgrounds! I noticed I used colors to hide how bare my panels are. I need to get better at that. Perspective is weird.
My friend in the middle is Steph. She’s a photographer/graphic designer/cool person. I talk to her about video games and icky gossip and occasionally movies. She has a lip ring that I tried drawing but it ended up looking weird. She feeds me sometimes and it’s pretty awesome but I should really try making money and use it to buy her a cake.
