The semester started, which means more illustrations for the paper. I drew for an article about the NRA blaming videogames. Should be a fun read!
I did this super quick and I’m playing around with that little caption thing like how the New Yorker does it. I’ll probably try and draw these better later on too, to match that same look.
If you want my quick opinion on the NRA vs. videogames thing, I think the NRA is being pretty dumb about it!

I rented Dishonored, but only for a day. I’m sure it’s as good as everyone’s been saying it is, but I don’t have time and I just wanted to try it out.
It’s pretty good, from what I played! I wish I gave myself more time with it. I’m just wondering why the bad guys only hired guards with tunnel vision, though. What’s up with that?

I’m actually looking forward to this movie! and this is coming from a fan who hated the idea of a remake and is not a fan of gore porn. whoever cut these trailers were having a blast.

There’s a bunch of different comics out there that inspire me to make my own. I love stories and characters and learning. But SF is one of the few that make me want to make comics just for the sake of making them. I heard about Ryan Cecil Smith last year and got #1 of SF and the Supplementary Files and instantly fell in love. I think anyone who’s ever made something would know that feeling you get when you’re creating. For me, it’s like being a kid again. I just get that same kind of feeling when I read SF. It’s not just the content of the story (which is really, super great). It’s also the ink and screentone and the kind of paper used, the look and the vibe and excitement. It’s everything I could want. There’s a texture to it so exclusive to comic books. As a kid, it’s the kind of comic that would make me want to go adventuring. As an adult it makes me want to shut every distracting thing off and just make things. I bought #2 and it makes life better.
Everyone do yourselves a favor and get these comics.I’ll pick up his other stuff when money comes in. You can read Two Eyes of the Beautiful here. It’s just as great.
I was playing around with some color filter thingy when I realized I was doing it on my only color layer. But I like what came out and I want to use those colors again. I wanna buy screentone and do more things off the computer too.

I picked up an ames lettering guide a while back and I aim to learn how to use it. A good rule of thumb for me is that I should give anything a try if it’s cheap enough to learn.
There were too many words in the instruction booklet so I just did it the Dustin Harbin Way™, which is how I learned about the little thing in the first place. There’s actually more words in his tutorial but his words were funner to read. I really rushed this because I have stuff to do, but it’s really cool! I’ll actually read the instructions and put down some real time with this when I finish all my other business. Thanks a bunch to Dustin for putting a tutorial out like this!

I want to go to the library and learn how to use the copier by reproducing some doodles and comics, but then I remembered why non-photo pencils should be a thing. I’ve been sketching all my stuff with a crayola pencil :( I wish art stores were closer to me.
