I designed the logo of that sandwich place from this week’s Motherworld. I’m trying to make more graphic design stuff because it’s hard to get a job in that area when my portfolio has none of that. homework this weekend is to gather fonts.
I was thinking of also designing a menu, but the only item I could come up with was the KGBLT. still proud of myself.

jogging off the weight of the universe.
I started exercising this week and my body doesn’t work anymore.

Back in the early 1990’s, when anime was still called “Japanimation” and The Simpsons still featured Phil Hartman, no one could have conceived of the concept of Bartkira. Yet 23 years later, in Neo-Britain, artist Ryan Humphrey gave life to the unimaginable. His pages for the mind-bending crossover comic ignited a fire in the mind of comic artist James Harvey, who proposed the impossible:
Recreate every page of Akira using characters from The Simpsons.
It would take 768 artists, each contributing five pages, to redraw the full six volumes of Katsuhiro Otomo’s masterwork. A monumental group comic project unlike any other inspired working illustrators, comics professionals, and even some who had never drawn a comic in their lives. Now for the first time, the project that some have heralded as the greatest thing to ever happen to the Internet is here to destroy Floating World Comics.
Come to Floating World Comics at 6:00 p.m. on May 1st for the opening of the Bartkira gallery show and meet members of the Bartkira Committee. Floating World will also debut a limited edition book collecting 100 pages from the Bartkira project as well as a full color gallery section.
WHO: Frans Boukas, members of the Bartkira Committee WHAT: Bartkira book release and art exhibit WHEN: Thursday May. 1st, 6-10pm WHERE: Floating World Comics, 400 NW Couch St

This show is going to be amazing, I wish I was in the states to check it out!  Don’t forget to check out frans boukas’ awesome art and reblog… he put together the art for this poster, and his pages in BArtkira are amazing!

dang, it’s happening! it’ll be fun to see all the pages in context now. wish I was in Portland for this, among a hundred other reasons. it’s a nice place. hopefully this means the volumes will be coming out soon.

I was gonna be lazy and think about things more. But then I read some tweets from Ryan Pequin and Meredith Gran about how you should stop worrying about developing characters and just start a story already. They inspired me to do just that. Exciting! Will I keep it up? Can I do it? I don’t know. But it’s fun so whatever. I haven’t figured some things out but I will as I go.

something I’m working on. it won’t look like this much when I’m finished. I just felt like celebrating Hellboy Day. Mignola and Stewart are huge inspirations when it comes to how I approach colors and light.

I like how it can be read both ways too. like a welcome error I don’t mind being an intention. I feel like it would be fun. the designer in me is saying that’s a bad excuse for a design flaw, but the cool teen artist in me is like “whatever man it’s 2014” and is loitering somewhere with an overflowing slurpee. still much to think about!
